Monocot vs Dicot: another difference is that monocots have a taproot system. Taproots are usually a single large vertically-down root that then branches off to smaller horizontal roots. Dicots have a fibrous root system, which has many small horizontally branched roots. Here is the taproots of grass (a monocot)
