Big Idea 1

Big Idea 1: Adaption of animal
An adaption for an animal is a physical or behavioral adaption that helps an animal survive in it's surroundings. The giraffe's long neck helps it reach food in higher places such as the top of a tree.

Byrophytes:
Byrophytes are plants that do not have vascular tissue. This moss does not have true vascular tissue, therefore, it is a byrophyte.

Angiosperms:
Angiosperms are seed producing plants that fruit or flower. This plant produces flowers and seeds within the pot and reproduces. (I used the target gift card so i used a Jesuit wristband.)
Modified Leaf:
A modified leaf is a type or part of a leaf that has a different use for the plant other than photosynthesis. This thorn protects the plant from predators rather than going through photosynthesis.
Modified Stem:
A Modified Stem is a stem that plants modify for other functions. The potato stem is a tuber, which stores extra food for growth.
Modified Root:
A modified root is similar to the stem and leaf. It is modified to better assist the plant. In the case of the carrot the stem and the root are modified for food storage.
Unicellular organism:
As it name states, it is an organism that consists of one cell. Yeast is an example of a unicellular organism, however it can be strung together to become multicellular.
Tetrapods:
Tetrapods are four limbed vertebrates consisting of birds, amphibians, mammals, and reptiles. This hornbill is tetrapod, falling into the category of bird, and it has four limbs.
Gymnosperm cone:
Gymnosperms are seed producing plants. This cone is from a conifer and is its seed. The cone will fall and blow away, and eventually sprout into another tree.
Gymnosperm leaf:
Gymnosperms are seed producing plants. This conifer has leaves that are in the shape of needles.
The leaves of gymnosperms are vastly variable.
Gastropods:
Gastropods consist of snails and slugs. They are mollusks and there are multiple species or gastropods. This garden snail is a land snail and a gastropod.
Artificial Selection:
Artificial Selection or selective breeding is when certain animals or plants are bred together to get prize traits. Cows can be bred selectively to produce healthy and big cows.

Chordate:
Chordates are essentially vertebrates or animals with a backbone. This chimpanzee is a chordate due to it being a vertebrate.
Amniotic egg:
An amniotic egg is an egg that can survive and created on land. The chicken egg is hatched and watched over by chickens on land. It is created, laid/watched, and hatched on dry land.
Genetic variation:
Genetic variation is the variety of the alleles in a gene. The two flowers have two colors, yellow and purple. These two different colors are the different alleles on the genes expressing the phenotype.

Gnathostome:
Gnathostomes are the group og vertebrates with jaws and teeth. The tiger is a vertebrate with a very powerful jaw. They make of most of the species of vertebrates.
