Big idea number 1

2. This dogs teeth shows an example of an adaptation of an animal. In order to survive, animals have to adapt to obtain food or to protect themselves from predators. Due to the fact that dogs are meat eaters, they need sharp teeth to tear through flesh and to chew their food much easier.


3. The small thorns found on this cactus like plant represents the adaptation of a plant. Plants adapt to their environment in order to survive from predators and the elements. This cactus uses thorns to protect itself from animals eating them.
4. This egg illustrates an amniotic egg. An amniotic egg is a type of eggs that usually come from birds or reptiles and consist of a shell that consist of calcium. This egg is a type of amniotic egg because it derived from a type of bird and has a calcium shell.

7. This worm is an example of a annelid. An annelid consist of various worms or worm like creatures that have a cylindrical and segmented body. This Earthworm is a form of worm that has a cylindrical and segmented body.

8. This spider web gives an example of a spider which is a form of an arachnid. An arachnid is a form of an arthropod that have four pairs of legs and a segmented body. A spider is considered an arachnid because it has four pairs of legs and a segmented body.


10. These shrimp like krill are an example of an arthropod. An arthropod is a type of invertebrate that have an exoskeleton made out of chitin and jointed appendages. Chitin is a type of structural polysaccharide used by arthropods to build their exoskeletons. Krill may not have jointed appendages but it is a type of invertebrate that have an exoskeleton made out of chitin.

12. This picture of a butterfly illustrates bilateral symmetry. Bilateral symmetry is  something that can be divided into symmetrical halves. The both the left and the right side of the butterfly's wings are symmetrical because they have the same exact design.

13. This moss  is an example of a bryophyte. A bryophyte is a type of nonflowering plant that maintains moisture in soil and is considered a non vascular plant. This moss is a bryophyte because it is a nonflowering plant that keeps in moisture. 


14. These fish in the picture is an example of a chordate. A chordate is a type of animal that has a spinal column and had gill slits at some stage of development. These fish are considered chordates because they have a form of a spinal column and gill slits.


16. This Earthworm is an example of a coelomate. A coelomate is any animal with a fluid filled cavity. Inside of this worm, it has a fluid filled cavity making it a coelomate.
17. This rabbit is an example of a deuterostome. A deuterostome is a major group of animals that have both a mouth and an anus that is formed during embryonic development. This rabbit is considered a deuterostome because it has both a mouth and an anus. 

19. This container of yogurt is an example of eubacteria. Eubacteria is a type of bacteria consisting of a cell wall and flagella. Eubacteria are used in things such as yogurt where it performs lactic acid fermentation. Here, pyruvate is reduced by NADH to lactate as an end product.

                                     
  20. In this picture is a type of fungus. Fungus is a type of plant that is reproduced through spores and feed on organic material. Mushrooms, yeast, and smuts are examples of fungi.


22. These two dogs give an example of genetic variation. Genetic variation is where offspring differ in appearance from the parents. These two dogs come from the same parent, but they differ in appearance from each other and their parents.

24. This pine cone is an example of a gymnosperm cone. A gymnosperm cone is a cone where its seeds are not enclosed. This spikes protruding from this pine cone is actually seeds, and since the seeds are on the outside, this pine cone is considered a gymnosperm cone.

25. This pine tree is an example of a gymnosperm leaf. A gymnosperm leaf usually may be small and scale like or needle like or have a broad blade.This pine tree is considered to have gymnosperm leaves because they have needle like leaves.
27. The fungus on the tree is an example of a lichen. A lichen is a type of fungus that grows on tree trunks or rocks. This picture is an example of a lichen because it is a fungus and it is a growth on the tree trunk.


28. This picture gives an example of a modified leaf of a plant. A modified leaf of a plant is an adaptation of a plant to protect itself from animals or the elements. This cactus like plant has thorns on its leaves to prevent animals from consuming it.

                                   
29. The root in this picture illustrate a modified root of a plant. A modified root of a plant is when a plant has to change the conformation of their roots to survive. This tree had to modify in a way so that they can be in the water; therefore, the tree is able to get a sufficient amount of water needed to survive.



30. This rose bush is an example of a modified stem of a plant. A modified stem of a plant is when a plant modifies their stems to protect themselves from predators. This rose bush uses thorns as a way to protect itself from animal consumption.
