Big Idea 2

The water sticking to this coin even though it is upside down is an example of adhesion.  Adhesion is the property of water that makes it attracted to and allows it to stick to other materials.
The water in this cup is over the edge but it is not spilling out.  This is because of the cohesive property of water that allows it to stick to itself and stay together even when it is not constrained by the cup.
Reptiles demonstrate ectothermy.  Ectotherms are not able to regulate their own body temperatures so they must absorb heat from the environment.
This is a picture of a zebra.  Zebras, like all mammals, are endotherms which means they get most if not all of their heat from internal metabolic sources.
This kangaroo is a heterotroph which means they cannot create their own food and have to eat food to get energy.
This plant is an autotroph.  Autotrophs do not have to eat to get the nutrients that they need.
This bottle of wine is an example of fermentation.  When yeast goes through fermentation it produces ethanol which is the alcohol in wine.
Salt is hydrophilic which means it is polarized and it is attracted to water.
Olive oil is hydrophobic which means it is non polar and it is not attracted to water.  It fact it is repeled by it.
Territorial behavior is when an animal shows "ownership" of its territory through its actions.  This lion is showing its territory by pacing at the edge of its cage.
