Big Idea 2: Term 31

Phospholipid:  A phospholipid is made of glycerol, two fatty acids, and a phosphate group.  The hydrocarbon tails of the phospholipid are nonpolar and hydrophobic.  The head of the phospholipid is hydrophilic.  Phospholipids are used to form the bilayer in cell membranes, allowing certain molecules in and out of the cell.  Peanuts contain the phospholipid lecithin.
