5) Gamete- a mature germ cell that when combined with a cell from the opposite sex can make a zygote. These Russian tortoises aren't gametes, but they are sexually reproducing organisms. That means that it takes two tortoises of the opposite sex to have intercourse and make a zygote. This also means that tortoises must also have haploid gametes. I don't know what sex these tortoises are, however.
