Big Idea 1: #3


3. Adaptation of a plant is performed over several generations. According to Medel's theory of natural selection, plants and animals adapt by genetic variation creating an advantage for a gene which allows for improved survival. This trichocereus grandie lorus has adapted to its environment by being able to store water and created large thorns to prevent being eaten.
