Big Idea 4

#3 Biomes: Biomes are climatically and geographically defined as contiguous areas with similar climatic conditions on the Earth. This Crap grass plane represents a grassland biome.

#4 Climax Community: A climax community is a steady relationship between the vegetation of the environment. This photo displays an Evergreen Shrub that has developed over a long period of time and has obtained a steady state.

#6 Competition: Competition between plants have determined which vegetation has survived in a given environment. The Post Oak trees in this photo represent competition between three trees and their root systems.

#7 Competition: Competition is the competing between different organisms. The crustacean that lived in this shell competed with many other living specimens.

#8 Endosperm: Endosperm is the tissue produced inside the seeds of most flowering plants around the time of fertilization to be used as a source of food storage. The tissues in the seeds of this Ranunculus Red flower exemplify endosperms.

#9 Introduced Species: Introduced species are species of vegetation that have been artificially introduced into an ecosystem. Queen Palm trees in Granite Bay are examples of introduced species.

#12 Mutualism: Mutualism is the way in which two species interact where both parties benefit. This photo shows Green Algae and various weeds growing in cooperation with one another. The Green Algae keeps the grounds moist for weeds to grow.

#16 Organisms on Different Levels of The Same Food Chain: Levels of food chains include many different types of predators, prey, and producers. Microorganisms represent final decomposers in decomposing these oak leaves. Additionally, microorganisms also display a key role in the food chain of ecosystems.

#18 Population: Populations are accumulations and organizations of species living in the same environment. This picture is of one evergreen tree in a population of many close evergreens.

#19 Predation: Predation is the biological relation between a pray and its predator. In the background of this picture is a Short Leaf Pine containing a sparrow's nest. Birds are predators to many other organisms in their ecosystems.
