7. detritivore: Detritivores are heterotrophs that obtain nutrients by consuming decomposing plant and animal matter. Detritivores are an essential component in an ecosystem. By feeding on decomposing plant and animal matter, detritivores contribute to decomposition and the nutrient cycle. The King Vulture in the picture is an animal that feeds on dead animals, thus making it a detritivore.
