8. flock, herd, or schooling: A flock, herd, or school of animals refers to the aggregation of those certain animals. These animals form groups with other individuals of the same species and are able to move with synchrony. The individuals are usually the same species, around the same age and the same size. There are advantages for fish to form schools; predator avoidance via safety-in-numbers or visual illusion that can confuse the predator due to the immense synchronized movement of the fishes. Another advantage is successful foraging; there are more eyes looking for food. Reducing stress when finding a partner is another reason. Goldfish exhibit this school behavior.
