Big Idea 1

4. Amniotic Egg: An amniotic egg is an egg which contains a hard shell and prevents desiccation of the embryo, which stays in the egg until development. The chicken egg in the picture is an amniotic egg because it contains a hard shell, and the chickens protect the eggs until full development of the embryo.

20. Fungi: A fungi is a member of the eukaryotic group of organisms. The fungi include yeast and molds. The mushroom is a type of fungus whose cell wall is made up of chitin and are a significant role in decomposition of organic materials. The mushroom in the picture is a type of fungus, for its cell wall is made up of chitin and it is a decomposer.

6. Angiosperm: An angiosperm is a plant that flowers. They produce seeds within an enclosure. The plant in the photo is a Tea Olive flower that has seeds and is among the most diverse group of land plants.

24. Gymnosperm Cone: A gymnosperm is a plant whose seeds are not enclosed within an ovary. This is illustrated by pine trees, which the embryos are turned into pine cones like the one shown in the picture.

17. Deuterostome: A deuterostome is an animal, which includes human beings, that has a vertebrate.  Chordates are also classified as deuterostomes. The coyote above is a deuterostome for it has a vertebrate and the embryonic development is distinguished as a chordate.
