gamete: A gamete is a haploid sex cell. Haploid means that the cell contains two chromosomes. Gametes from the mother and the father come together to form a zygote which will then develop into a new organism via mitosis. The gametes from the mother are eggs and the gametes from the father are sperm. The chicken eggs in the picture are an example of female gametes.
