24. hydrophobic: Hydrophobic describes non-polar substances that are not soluble in water. Hydrophobic comes from the Greek words, hydro and phobos, which translates to water and fear, respectively. Substances that are hydrophobic are non-polar which means there are no charges. Since water has a slight negative charge, non-polar molecules, which have no charge, tend to group together. Oils such as olive oils are considered to be hydrophobic.
