big idea 1

40 - A Unicellular organism is a organism that consists of only one cell. The pond water has many unicellular organisms that survive off of the sun. They are so small that you can't see them with human eye. You would need a mircoscope to see them.
39-  Tetrapods are vertebrates with four legs. They most likely evolved from fish. The Rainbow Sand Lizard uses it’s for legs to climb up things. The sand lizard uses the vander wals attraction to be able to stick to surfaces like the wall.
38- They don't use seeds to reproduce but use spores instead. That also means they do not have flowers. This fern has a lot of spores during the spring which is not good for allergies. This also means they do not need to pollinated by insects.
36 - A pseudocoelomate is a group of invertebrates that has a fluid filled body cavity. The round worm which is commonly used for fishing has a full body cavity.
30 - Modified stem of a plant is an adaption that helps the plant become more proficient at continuing to exist and is on the stem. The rose has thorns along the stem so animals do not interfere with it. The thorns  keep large animals away but  allow insects to come and pollinate them.
29- Modified root of plant is an adaption  helps the plant become more proficient at continuing to exist. The onion has a bulb along with its roots. Humans and other animals commonly dig up the onion to eat the bulb. The bulb can send up several stocks to acquire sunlight better.
28- Modified leaf of a plant is an adaptation that helps the plant become more proficient at photosynthesis and more able to survive in its environment. This Camellia Japonica has wide leaves to have a bigger area for sunlight to hit therefore being able to produce more sugars through photosynthesis.
27- The partnership between a fungus and algae. They partner up for protection and gains nutrients for the fungus. This water moss is a combination of algae and fungus under the ground. The algae provides sugars while the fungus provides nutrients.
24- A reproductive device that places seeds or pollen at the end of cones. The cone itself helps provide protection and make it easier for it to reproduce. The magnolia cone contains little red seeds that help establish the next generation of magnolias.
23- A gnathostone Usually a fish but an animal with a vertebrate and jaws. The coy fish has a lower jaw so they can eat food particles floating by. Without the jaw bone eating particles of food would nearly be impossible.
22- Genetic variation is variation of alleles that produces different traits. This is important because species need genetic variation to adapt to their environment. the tiger salamander has several different shades of color which help him blend into his surroundings
20- They are not plants and are heterotrophs which cannot manufacture their own food. They replicate with spores. The mold that developed on our strawberries developed in our refrigerator completely devoid of light.
19- Prokaryotic bacteria that are very common in humans and that is the kingdom.  yogurt is made out bacteria and milk being mixed together letting the cultures grow. sometimes but not often the bacteria can get into humans and effect them.
11- When two things are breed by humans. Humans usually do this to get a desirable trait. Buster, a
black lab, was breed for his traits of color and size.
10- They have jointed limbs that are made out of chitin. Arthropod is the name of the phylum. The lobster use it powerful tail to propel forward and get out of harms way. the reason it can do that is the chitin in the membranes make the exoskeleton strong.
8- A type of animal that has eight legs and no wings, and is carnivorous. This tarantula has tiny hairs along his body and preys on small insects, but thankfully it is not harmful to humans.
6- A plant that produces a flower and has seeds. The flower is used to store
the seed which in turn helps the plant reproduces. Insects often spread pollen from plant to plant. The begonia flower gets pollinated from the bees and other insects in our backyard.
3- The action or process of a plant adapting to an environment. The Flowing Pear Tree adapts to its environment by losing its leaves during the winter because there is no sunlight assist photosynthesis.
5- an analogous structure that common in other species that do not have a common ancestor. This salmon has vertebrate along with a jaw. These features appear in many other types of fish all around the world.  These adaptions help the fish do many things like and swim up stream to spawn.
2- The action or process of an animal adapting to an environment. The Masai giraffe adapts to its environment by having along a neck to reach leaves that are high up in trees.
