Big Idea 3

4. double fertilization: Double fertilization is a fertilization process found in angiosperms. The embryo sac of a plant contains a haploid egg and two polar nuclei. Two sperm come along and fertilize the egg creating a zygote. But the other sperm fuses with the two polar nuclei which makes a triploid endosperm. Double fertilization occurs in all angiosperms, such as the petunias in the picture.
