#2...niche

this is an evergreen pine. It occupies the ecological niche( big idea 4 # 13) of northern forests where it is too cold for many other plants to grow. However, the soils that are frozen for much of the year prevent the decay of nutrients therefor allowing evergreens to grow well in their select enviroment. Their seeds are withing protected cones and a single tree can contain both male and female cones(how???). they keep their leaves and survive in this niche becuase of a waxy coating and small SA to conserve water when it is frozen(not availible for photosynthisis) and contain a form of antifreese to prevent damage in cold temperatures.
