Big Idea 3

1: Diploid: A diploid is an cell or organism that has two sets of DNA, that is, its chromosomes are arranged such that there are two copies of each. This guide dog is a diploid animal.

2: Ethylene: Ethylene is the most basic plant hormone, and it assists in the ripening of fruit in flowering plants. It is also a flammable gas common in most kitchens.

3: Eukaryote: An eukaryote is any organism whose cell(s) contain organelles such as a nucleus and mitochondria. This plant's cells contain mitochondria, chloroplasts, nuclei, and vacuoles.

7: Evidence of different alleles for the same trait:

7-1: In the first picture, two flowers of the same species are shown, but they are of different colors.
7-2: In the second picture, the two fish are also of the same species, but they have different-colored scales.
7-3: In the third picture, the two cacti have different-colored bulbs on top of their stems. These three examples show that there are different alleles for the same trait.
8: Flock/Herd/Schooling behavior: In order to keep safe, many animals group together. Groups of fish are called schools, groups of mammals are called herds, and groups of birds, like the geese in this picture, are called flocks.

10: Genetically modified organism: Genetically modified organisms' DNA have been altered by humans in order to make them more resilient to pests, droughts, all while producing more fruit.

19: Seed dispersal method: Many different plants have different ways of distributing their seeds: ferns use spores, flowering plants use their fruit, and this plant uses the wind to distribute their offspring.

20: Tropism: A tropism is a response by an organism, usually a plant, to an environmental stimulus. The plant here is expressing phototropism, a response to light.
