scavenger 6-25

6. fungi

a fungi is any type of organism that grets its food from another organism that is decaying. this is a picture of a mushroom which is an organism that feeds of what it grows near.

7. Gastropod

A gastropod is a type of animal with no spine and a flat base. and often a shell. This is a picture of a snail which is a spineless animal with a flat base to move around on and it lives inside its shell.

8. Lichen

A lichen is a gray, green, or yellow plant like organism that grows on rocks. this a picture of a rock that has lichens growing on it.

9. Radial Symmetry

radial symmetry is when an organism can be divided into two similar halves. I chose this flower because I could tell that this would become two similar halves if you cut it in half.

10. anabolic

anabololic is the process of building up using energy. this algae is using the suns energy to build itself on this brick.

11. archaebateria

Archaebacteria are microorganisms that have a cell form arranged different from any other kind of cell. this is a picture of boiling water. I chose boiling water because a group of archaebacteria called Thermoacidophiles thrive in extremely hot conditions.

12. Hydrophobic

organisms who are hydrophobic have no affinity for water. they don't mix with water. this is water with olive oil in it . olive oil is a very hydrophobic liquid. you can see that instead of mixing with the water, the oil has formed a "bubble" of oil inside the water.

13. cohesion
cohesion is the "sticking" of water molecules to other water molecules. the cohesion of water is what is keeping this piece of lettuce from sinking.

14. unsaturated fat

unsaturated fat is fat in which the fatty acid tails have a carbon double bonded to another carbon so they don't become a solid chain like saturated fats. unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature. this is a picture of olive oil which is an example of an unsaturated fat.

15. hypotonic

hypotonic refers to when something is submerged in a solution that has a lower concentration of matter  that the object. the object is hypotonic to the solution. water will flow into the object. this is a picture of a gummy submerged in water. the water will flow into the gummy.

16.hypertonic

hypertonic refers to when a solution has a higher concentration that the object that's in it. water will flow out of the object into the solution. this is the same picture as above but I have filled it with salt to give the solution a higher concentration than the gummy.

17. krebs cycle

the krebs cycle is part of how animals under go aerobic respiration to creat energy. this is a picture of two animals who often use the krebs cycle.\

18. kenisis

Kenisis is the expenditure of potential energy. this is an example of kenisis because it's a cup falling from high potential energy to low potential energy and releasing its energy.

19. stomata

the stomata are microscopic holes located on the outside of the leaf that let oxygen exit the leaf and carbon dioxide enter. this is a picture of the bottom of a leaf which has many stomata on it.

20. adhesion

Adhesion is when water molecules stick to molecules of something else because of the hydrogen bonds. like for instance the window that is depicted in this image

21. Autotroph

an autotroph is an organism that can produce its own energy using light from the son. this is a picture of a plant during feeding time.

22. hydrophilic

something that is hydrophillic mixes with water. this is a picture of sugar mixing with water.\

23. xylem
a xylem is the part of the plant that brings water up into the leaves through the roots. this is a picture of      a stem of a plant which is where the xylem resides.

24. phloem

the phloem is a part of the plant that brings sugars down from the leaves. this is a picture of a phloem in the stem of a plant.

25.phospholipid

a phospholipid is a lipid that is used to make membranes of cells. this is a picture of my hand which has many cells with phospholipids making up their membranes.
