Big Idea 4
20. R-Strategist - An r-strategist is an organism that grows quickly, reproduces often, reproduces numerously, and depends on less parental care. Mice are a good example of this, because mice will be born with a large number of siblings, are able to reproduce younger than k-strategists, and will reproduce more often than k-strategists, which is why mice populations grow rapidly, but the individuals die younger than k-strategists.

3. Adaption of a Plant - An adaption of a plant is a trait or feature that allows them to grow and thrive in a certain area, while not in another. Such adaptions are what allow for cactuses to live in the desert or seaweed to grow in water. Seaweed is flexible to move with the water currents, and lack strong water transport systems, which they do not need being in water.

41. Vestigial Structure - A vestigial structure is a structure that over time has lost its original functionality. Like in most male mammals, nipples are present on the body. Males do not need nipples, and the nipples have no purpose, thus they are vestigial structures.

38. Seedless Vascular Plant - A seedless vascular plant is one that has a vascular system and produces no seeds. This means that the organism is able to transport fluids throughout its body, and one of the best examples of this kind of a plant is the fern. Ferns have xylem and phloem which makes them vascular, and they reproduce through spores, instead of seeds.

11. Artificial Selection - Artificial selection is the process of breeding animals or plants for a certain trait. Artificial selection is what has given us corn, broccoli, and even the many breeds of dogs (which use to be bred for a particular job). Broccoli has been artificially selected to grow in their present state by suppressing the flower development of wild mustard.

10. Arthropod - An arthropod is an animal that is an invertebrate, has a segmented body, and jointed appendages, like a spider or scorpion. Scorpions have an exoskeleton, which makes them an invertebrate. They also have an abdomen that is segmented and allows for flexibility, and their legs are jointed which means they bend at certain points.
